TahirZahoor Ahmed
I am the founder and CEO of the largest private mental health organization in Pakistan, Therapy Works.
In 2006, I discovered that as few as 500 psychiatrists providing pharmacology and 3000 psychologists using just CBT were the only existing mental health cover limited to 5 or 6 cities of Pakistan. The remaining 220 million people suffering from unemployment, violence, patriarchy in a security state sought refuge from severe mental and emotional trauma in faith healers, Amils (local shamans) and quacks.
To fill the huge gap in emotional support to the down trodden, I established Therapy Works as the third mental health paradigm as opposed to psychiatry (pure pharmacological/medical model) and psychology (CBT) only.
I brought in UK tutors now augmented by UK trained local tutors and introduced a five year counselling and therapy training that includes Humanistic, Psychoanalytical, Psychodynamic in the first two and a half years, followed by integrative therapy in year three (UK Level 5), a Level 6 UK Diploma in Supervision in year four and Couples Therapy, Family Therapy, and Cognitive Analytic Therapy in year five (to commence in December 2022).
These programs except Level 7 are accredited with Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) UK.
I started out as a Banker followed by 30 years as a businessman. In 2006, I entered a UK two year Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, followed by UK Diploma Level 6 in Supervision. I have taught for the past 16 years at all UK counseling levels.
I also see clients for a host of mental and emotional issues. My work is integrative using relational therapy with the enactment dynamic arising from primary wounding and trauma therapy with a body mind emphasis.
